Some Useful tips to prevent Back Pain

Use firm mattress for sleeping with the thin pillow under the head.

To sit up from the lying position, turn on your side first, bend the hips and knees and take support from upper arm.

To lift heavy objects, bend your knees and keep the back straight.

To lift a child bend your knees and pull the child up to your chest and lift with the back straight.

While sitting, see that your knees are higher than your hips.

Use the chair of correct height, width and depth for sitting and working.

Use car seat with lumber lordosis support.

Ladies should use higher wash basin of correct height.

Ironing table should be correct height so that back does not bend more.

Always sit with your back straight and supported.

Do not stand or seat in one position for too long.

Avoid sudden and jerky movement of the body.

Be careful while going up or down the stairs or playing games involving jerky movements.

Observe correct posture while sitting, standing or lying.

Do not walk or ride the vehicle for too long distances.

Do not try to reach for overhead heavy objects.

Kneel if working on the floor. Don’t bend over items on floor.

Back exercise should be done before breakfast and before dinner. Exercise for the back, should aim at increasing flexibility, strength and endurance. The lower back, in particular requires strong muscles for support and prevention of lower back pain.
