Anjanaya -asana – The Salutation Pose

 The Sanskrit word anjaneya means salutation or praise from the root anj which means to honor, to celebrate, to anoint.

Instructions:

1. Sit comfortably in the vajra-asana (thunderbolt pose).

2. Kneel up on your knees until your back, buttocks and thighs are aligned.

3. Extend your left foot forward bending your left knee at about a 90 degree angle.

4. Place the palms of your hands together at the heart in the anjali-mudra.

5. Raise your arms straight up keeping the palms together while bending the head backward and looking up.

6. Slowly bend backward stretching the arms backward and straightening out the right leg. Hold this position for as long as comfortable while breathing gently through the nostrils.

7. Come back to the vajara-asana (thunderbolt pose) then reverse the posture by
alternating legs.

Comments:

The anjaneya-asana combines several postures and mudras (gestures) in a fluid, evolving flow that combines motion, stretching and holds. It delivers great benefits for the back, arms, chest, legs and hips. Regular practice will strengthen concentration and improve balance. Perform this posture with a sense of reverence and praise. Take a moment to reside in silence and peace as your hands are held at the heart in the gesture (mudra) of salutation (anjali-mudra). Keep the intention of praise in mind as you extend your arms skyward. Feel your entire body-mind-heart extending outward in recognition of the sacredness of life.

Duration/Repetitions:

Repeat twice on each side.

Akarna-Dhanura-asana – The Shooting – bow – Pose

English Name: The Shooting-bow Pose

The Sanskrit word karna means ear and the prefix "a" means near to or towards. Dhanur means bow-shaped, curved or bent. The "bow" here referred to is a bow as in "bow and arrow." Literally we could translate this as the near-the-ear bow
Posture but because of the obvious appearance of the posture we'll call it the shooting bow posture.


Steps:

1. Sit on the floor with the legs together and extended straight out in front. Keep the back straight, shoulders level and head straight. Place the hands, palms down, flat on top of the thighs then inhale deeply.

2. Exhale and reach down and loop the forefinger of the right hand around the big toe of the right foot and grasp the left foot with the left hand.

3. Inhale and pull the right foot back placing the big toe next to the right ear. Straighten the back as much s possible and hold the posture for the duration of the inhale breath.

4. Exhale and return to the seated position of step #1 then repeat the posture on the opposite side. "Having caught the toes of the feet with both hands and carried them to the ears by drawing the body like a bow, it becomes Dhanura-asana."

Comments:

While practicing this posture imagine yourself as an archer with the gaze focused on the target and the arrow firmly yet gracefully being pulled back in the bow. Hold the posture steady as an archer would hold the arrow aimed at its target. Return the foot to the floor gently. This simple technique will help cultivate
a focused and unwavering attention.

Variations:

Reverse the hands and feet so that that the right hands pulls the left foot to the left ear and vice versa. The foot gets pulled under the outstretched arm.

WEIGHT LOSS DIET

This Programme is designed for a target weight loss 5-6 Kgs. per Week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like to without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by at least 10 pounds. You will have abundance and an improved disposition.

During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

DAY ONE

All fruits except bananas. Your first day consist of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of watermelon and cantaloupe.

DAY TWO

All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the new and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the account or Type. Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have a large boiled potato for breakfast.

DAY THREE

Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet and no potato today.

DAY FOUR

Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have 1 Bowl of vegetable soup.

DAY FIVE

Today is feast day. You will eat one cup of rice. You also have to eat six whole tomatoes and drink 12 glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.

DAY SIX

Today is another all vegetable day. You must eat one cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your hears content.

DAY SEVEN

Today your food intake consists of 1 Cup of rice, fruit juice and the vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight kgs. Lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the programme again. Repeat the programme as often you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.
You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the puring and cleansing you just gave it. Even more than a diet programme it is good to follow this diet once in awhile to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have accumulated in the system.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

The most important element of the programme is the 10 tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavor the water with some lemon to make the drink easier. While on the programme, take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because the high calorific content. No fruit juice before day seven.


WONDER SOUP

The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to drink large quantities of this soup.
23oz water
06 large onions
02 Green peppers
03 whole tomatoes
1 cabbage
1 bunch celery-add herbs and seasoning as desired.

This programme is highly recommended for women and men above 40 for whom excess weight is especially dangerous. Excess weight for women aggravates arthritis problems and leads to rapid joint decay. Pain and joint deterioration can be lessened by weight loss as weight loss removes the stress on the knee joint. Excess weight is the most critical factor in keeping good health and excess weight is responsible for most problems including coronary diseases, heart problems, arthritis and cancer among other serious life threatening diseases. Most serious health problem can be avoided by the single function of maintaining an ideal weight .Daily mild exercise of 20 minutes is also essential. Do not tire yourself out, but being regular in your exercise mad maintaining an ideal weight goes a long way in ensuring a happy, healthy and long life.
